Mechanical Cleaning
Wire brushing, internal honing, shot and sand blasting to remove mill scale, rust, weld spatter and loose deposits from bore and outer surface.
De-scaling, pickling, passivation, drying and export-grade packing — so the pipe that leaves our works is the same pipe that arrives at site, inside and out.
Scale, weld spatter, grinding dust and mill oil left inside a pipe do not stay there. They travel to the first orifice plate, control valve or pump seal downstream and cause a failure that gets blamed on the equipment rather than on the line. Cleaning is the cheapest insurance in a piping package.
The second half of the job is protection. A stainless spool that has been pickled and passivated properly can still be ruined by three weeks in a container with steel strapping cutting into it. We treat packing as part of the manufacturing process, not as an afterthought at the loading bay.
Selected to suit the material and the service the pipe is going into — a stainless line for pharma is not treated the same way as a carbon steel water header.
Wire brushing, internal honing, shot and sand blasting to remove mill scale, rust, weld spatter and loose deposits from bore and outer surface.
Acid pickling to strip heat tint and free iron from stainless steel, followed by passivation to restore the chromium oxide layer that makes it stainless at all.
Solvent or alkaline de-greasing and water flushing for oxygen service, hydraulic lines and pharmaceutical piping, followed by forced drying.
Surface preparation to Sa 2½ followed by primer, epoxy, PU or heat-resistant coating to the specified dry film thickness.
Plastic or steel bevel protectors, end caps and plugs fitted so machined weld preparations survive handling, stacking and transport.
Bundling, VCI wrapping, fumigated wooden crates, steel cradles and container lashing with a packing list and marking on every piece.
Material, heat number and mark number are recorded, so nothing loses its identity during cleaning.
Mechanical or chemical cleaning selected for the material, with stainless kept strictly away from carbon steel tooling.
Every bore is checked for residue, and the outer surface for cleanliness and coating adhesion before the next stage.
Coating, VCI, end caps and plugs applied, with nitrogen purge and sealing where the service requires it.
Crated or bundled, marked, weighed and despatched with a packing list and cleaning record.
The default treatment for each combination — adjusted where your specification says otherwise.

| Material / Service | Internal Cleaning | External Finish | End Protection |
|---|---|---|---|
| Carbon steel, general | Wire brush, blast, air blow | Shot blast + primer | Plastic caps |
| Carbon steel, export | Blast, de-grease, VCI | Blast Sa 2½ + epoxy | Steel bevel protectors |
| Stainless steel | Pickle + passivate + DM rinse | Pickled / 2B / mirror as required | Plastic caps, PE wrap |
| Pharma / food grade | De-grease, DM flush, dry, cap | Electropolish or 320 grit | Capped and heat-sealed |
| Oxygen service | Solvent clean, verified oil-free | As specified | Capped, labelled, sealed |
| Hydraulic lines | Flush to cleanliness class, dry | Primer or plating | Plugged, nitrogen filled |
| Alloy steel (P11 / P22 / P91) | Blast, de-scale after PWHT | Primer, heat-resistant paint | Bevel caps, colour coded |
Cleaning records, coating DFT readings and packing lists are issued with the consignment.
Yes. Cleaning, coating and packing are offered as a standalone service on customer material — including spools fabricated elsewhere and pipes returning from site.
Pickling removes material — heat tint, scale and a thin layer of the surface itself, including embedded free iron. Passivation removes nothing; it encourages the chromium oxide film to reform evenly. Stainless needs both, in that order, to behave as stainless in service.
Yes. We supply fumigated ISPM-15 compliant wooden crates, steel cradles, VCI wrapping and lashing, along with packing lists, case markings and weight and dimension details for the shipping documents.
Machined bevels are the most easily damaged feature on a pipe, so they get plastic or steel bevel protectors, plain ends get caps or plugs, and flanged ends get face protectors. We manufacture bevel protection caps ourselves as a standard product.
Cut-to-length, bevelling and weld preparation before the cleaning and packing stage.
End caps, plugs and protection hardware manufactured in our own works.
The inspection and documentation regime that every cleaned consignment passes through.
We will propose the cleaning method, coating system and packing standard, and quote it as part of your order or as a standalone job.
